Call for interns to support the Nyéléni Europe Movement

The Nyéléni Europe Movement for Food Sovereignty is looking for interns!
To improve our internal work we need someone who is in charge of updating and improving of our webpage. Up to now we do not dispose of means to pay an intern who is able to take care of this.

Despite that we know that it is possible to have intern positions funded by European or national scholarships such as Leonardo, Erasmus Placement, European Voluntary Service, National projects, etc.

We kindly ask the organizations in the Movement to indicate us, if they know projects or people who are eligible for that kind of scholarships and who are interested to work for the Nyéléni website (updating events, contact the Nyéléni organizations, develop the mapping tool and new virtual tools, etc.) from Brussels or from another office from an organization that is part of Nyéléni. This person should have good informatics skills and be committed to our visions.

In case you are interested yourself or if you know someone, who could be interested to work on that, in order to strengthen the Nyéléni movement, please contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. until 30th May.

17th April: Hundreds of actions around the world to celebrate the International Day of Peasants’ Struggles

The international farmers’ movement La Via Campesina is mobilizing this year by continuing to oppose the current international offensive by some States and large corporations to grab land from farmers, women and men, who have been cultivating it for centuries. We are also opposing the commercialization of nature and the Commons, which is something that is leading to a massive dispossession of people who are simply living on the land. Farmers, be they men or women are particularly affected.

A full list of actions, ranging from university lectures and workshops to the occupation of land and government institutions is available on the website www.viacampesina.org. A map of actions will also be updated on a daily basis.

Land concentration, land grabbing and people’s struggles in Europe

17th April- International Day of Peasants' Struggles

Executive summary - Recommendations - Overview of papers

The report, involving 25 authors from 11 countries, reveals the hidden scandal of how a few big private business entities have gained control of ever-greater areas of European land. It exposes how these land elites have been actively supported by a huge injection of public funds – at a time when all other public funding is being subjected to massive cuts. While some of these processes – in particular ever-increasing land concentration -- are not new, they have accelerated in recent decades in particular in Eastern Europe. They have also paved the way for a new sector of foreign and domestic actors to emerge on the European stage, many tied into increasingly global commodity chains, and all looking to profit from the increasingly speculative commodity of land.
